The Alteration in Deputy President’s home security

It must have been a tough week to the Deputy Head of State. The week started off with a dare from the Head of State daring him to quit government. Reports reaching various media houses are that there’s a change in the security manning the Deputy President’s home.

The National Police Service has however, de-emphasised the fact that the GSU officers have been withdrawan from the official Karen residence. Saying that it is a normal change and re-assignment. This aims at enhancing efficiency among the police.

The police spokesman , Bruno Shioso ,has said the the General Service Unit , popularly known as the GSU has been replaced with the Security of Government Buildings ,SGB. The spokesman’s statement read ,’ today ,26th August ,2021 ,the Security of Government Buildings SGB, has been deployed to provide general security ,to the official residence of H.E the Deputy President from the GSU ,this is a normal re-assignment of duties within the National Police Service to enhance effeciency and effectiveness .’

The spokesman added that the Presidential Escort Unit shall continue to give close protection to the Vice President.

On the other hand, David Mugonyi, the Deputy President’s communications secretary , said this operation is unlawful and that is has been extended to all Ruto’s residences . Mr Mugonyi said ,’ This morning ,the deputy president was briefed by the officer in charge of the General Service Unit attached to his official residence in Karen that he had received verbal instructions to withdraw all GSU officers effective 2:00 p.m .’

The action has been termed unlawful as per the police standing orders chapter 8 section 5(e) ,in which the GSU commandant is responsible for the security of the Head of State,His Deputy and Statehouse.
On his Facebook page, Kapsaret mp Oscar Susi, soon on the issue. He blamed the president and the interior CS, Fred Matiang’i saying “President Uhuru Kenyatta is a very petty President, but CS Matiang’i is the pettiest of all. The duo have just ordered withdrawal of all security officers manning Sugoi, Elgon View home, Karen Residence, and all other premises linked to DP Ruto,”

Nominated Senator, Millicent Omanga, also questioned the changes made on the Deputy president’s security detail days after the dare made by the president. She questioned, “So we have sunk this low?”

This is amidst daily growing rift and now row, between the President and his Deputy.
However, Boda boda youths were seen outside the DPs home in Sugoi, saying they will guard the home even when the government has withdrawn his security.
